No Plastic – Fantastic!

Join Bellingen EYE, 850 community members, 54 local businesses, the Bellingen Shire Council, the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce, and the Bellingen Environment Centre who all say no to plastic bags in our Shire.

This campaign has been going since late 2009 and is currently working on a strategy to go further afield – to make NSW the next Plastic Bag Free state!

Did you know that South Australia has been plastic bag free since 2009, the Northern Territory since May 2011, and that Tasmania and the ACT are in the process of legislating against plastic bags? If they can do it, so can NSW! We are currently collecting 10,000 signatures for a People’s Petition to present to the NSW Parliament. Go to our home page to sign the petition – and please spread the word!

EYE Food

Bellingen EYE received a large grant from Communities NSW/Better Futures Strategy to carry out a project called “Food4LYF (Local Youth Futures)” from January – September 2011. We have partnered with Bellingen High School and the Bellingen Community Gardens Association to create a beautiful organic garden on the school grounds. Project participants are learning life skills such as food growing and processing, project planning, leadership and group facilitation…. and even pizza oven building! Check out all the action here →
